Nothing New - We Need to Rest

I recently read Rest is Resistance - A Manifesto by Tricia Hersey. You may have heard her interviewed on a podcast...like We Can Do Hard Things; or heard her work referenced by the Nagoski twins when they discussed their book Burnout on Brene Brown's Unlocking Us podcast. Tricia is known as the Nap Bishop and founded a Nap Ministry. Really! Doesn't that sound beautiful?

I was so moved by her book. I know my reaction is a cumulation of insights I've gained from several books and podcasts I've enjoyed; conversations with family, friends, and acquaintances; what I learned from my job at a non-profit, as well as some circumstances life is currently sending me. There are times I literally ache for rest, be it a physical or emotional manifestation. I find myself saying, I can rest when I do x, y, and z. I can rest when fill-in-the-blank is set. Like I have to earn rest!

If you are familiar with the Bible’s creation story, we are told that God worked hard on days one through six, creating all that we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. And on the seventh day, God rested. Let that sink in. GOD. RESTED. !!! If the Creator of all, the Love of the Universe, took a break, don’t you think we, too, can take a break? And then fast forward to the story of Moses and the 10 Commandments: God thought rest is so important God commands us to rest.

We do not have to earn rest. Rest is a Divine right.

I’ve created two Moments for Me that help teach us how we got here, to this place of constant activity, working, doing…and so little just being. These opportunities also teach breathing techniques, use guided meditation, and offer practical tips on how to build “empty” time and rest into your schedule.

As we approach the busy holiday season, would you like to take a step back and evaluate how you choose to spend your time? We can work in one on one or group coaching on these topics *OR* you can set up a time for me to speak with your group.

I look forward to supporting you on your quest to do less and be more.
