Nothing New - This is Overwhelming!

In my last Nothing New we learned about stress. Today we’ll look at overwhelm.

Using Brene Brown’s definition from Atlas of the Heart, “overwhelmed means an extreme level of stress, an emotional and/or cognitive intensity to the point of feeling unable to function.”

Merriam-Webster says overwhelm is “completely overcome or overpowered by thought or feeling.”

Yikes!  Not. Fun.

And we’ll all feel overwhelmed at some point. We all have that moment when everything seems to be happening faster than our body, mind, and emotions can handle.

What should you do when you're overwhelmed? Nothing!

Really! Step back and do nothing.

Let your body, mind, and emotions come back into balance. Sit, be, breathe, color, play; don’t have an agenda.

Many people are using the word “overwhelmed” when describing how they feel about our current election cycle. And that’s probably an accurate assessment.

So, what can you do to stay informed while not getting drawn into negativity and drama?

On my socials from 10/7/24 – 10/11/24, I am exploring the cycles of nature and how they can teach us powerful life lessons.

And since election cycles are a fixture of our life in America, my Nothing New blogs next month will help you navigate the current cycle in a mindful, healthy way.
